Democrats Serve PAC Plans IE Supporting Gabe Amo in Special General Election on Nov. 7, 2023 (RI-01)

Planned program includes a mix of cable TV and digital ads.

Milford, Conn. (October 31, 2023) — Today, Democrats Serve — a national group supporting Democrats with public service backgrounds — announced a planned independent expenditure (IE) effort supporting Democrat Gabe Amo in Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional District where a special election will be taking place on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

A newly released Salve Regina University poll shows Amo leading Republican Gerry Leonard (46% - 36%) with many undecided voters (15%).

Democrats Serve’s planned effort supporting Amo for the special general election includes:

  • Cable TV: Delivering to special general election voters in the Providence market; and

  • Digital advertising: Programmatic digital and social media ads, including video, delivering hundreds of thousands of impressions to likely special general election voters.

“Gabe Amo knows public service,” said Democrats Serve’s founding executive director, Brett Broesder, who has known Amo since the two were field organizers on Sheldon Whitehouse’s U.S. Senate run in 2006. “Gabe’s background gives him a unique perspective and expertise on the frontlines of policy delivery. There’s no doubt that Gabe will deliver results for Ocean Staters in the nation’s capital. We’re proud to continue supporting Democrat Gabe Amo’s candidacy.”

In the RI-01 special Democratic primary election — a multi-candidate race won by Amo on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 — Democrats Serve was the first national organization to publicly back Amo’s candidacy. The organization ran the only significant special Democratic primary election IE effort supporting Amo, spending over $50,000 on a mix of direct mail, television, and digital ads.

In the 2022 midterm election cycle, the organization endorsed and actively supported several Ocean State-based candidates, including Seth Magaziner for Congress, Val Lawson for State Senate, Joe Shekarchi for State Representative, and Xaykham “Xay” Khamsyvoravong for Mayor of Newport.

Democrats Serve’s overall national effort consists of recruiting, training, and supporting Democrats with backgrounds serving communities in government, including educators, police officers, firefighters, first responders, social workers, judges, prosecutors, public defenders, public health nurses, and more.
