Democrats Serve PAC Endorses Katie Hobbs for Arizona Governor

Highlighting her public service background as a social worker, a new national organization plans to support Hobbs in her gubernatorial bid.

Milford, CT (July 7, 2021) – Today, Democrats Serve — a new national political action committee (PAC) that supports Democrats running for office with public service backgrounds, including social workers — is endorsing current Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs in her gubernatorial bid.

Brett Broesder, the PAC’s executive director, noted that Hobbs — a social worker who has also served Arizona as a state representative, state senator, and currently secretary of state — is well-positioned to bring accountability, transparency, and results as the Grand Canyon State’s next governor.

“Katie Hobbs knows public service,” said Broesder. “From advocating for women in crisis as a social worker, to expanding job training opportunities as a state legislator, to protecting voting rights as secretary of state, Katie has a proven track record of delivering for Arizona families.”

Broesder also said that the PAC is making a concerted effort to recruit diverse candidates with frontline public service backgrounds, including social workers and police officers.

“Whether it’s peddling conspiracy theories about the 2020 election or refusing to investigate the role politics played in allowing insurrectionists to kill a police officer, Republicans have made their priorities clear: appeasing right-wing extremists trumps law and order,” said Broesder.

“That’s why Katie Hobbs, with a strong track record of public service and standing up for Arizonans as a social worker, legislator, and secretary of state — even amid death threats and armed protesters showing up at her home — is receiving our endorsement in her run for governor.”

Democrats Serve is also considering making an endorsement in Arizona’s first congressional district, where incumbent Tom O’Halleran is a former police officer.

Since officially launching less than two months ago, the PAC has made endorsements in several competitive elections nationwide, including Eric Adams for New York City Mayor (NY), Val Demings for U.S. Senate (FL), and Cheri Beasley for U.S. Senate (NC).

With their recent launch, Democrats Serve rolled out a diverse group of former and current elected officials nationwide who support the PAC’s mission, including Martha Guerrero — the mayor of West Sacramento and a licensed clinical social worker.

“Social workers often interact with people at their most vulnerable moments, and that experience has given me a tremendous insight into the impact of policy, both good and bad,” said Guerrero. “We could use more policymakers who have worked directly with people in their communities and these are the types of candidates Democrats Serve will help.”
