BREAKING: Republicans just blocked the Jan 6 commission to investigate the insurrection

What just happened in the U.S. Senate is shameful.

The Senate voted 54-35 — falling short of the 60-vote filibuster requirement — and failed to advance the January 6 commission to investigate the insurrection.

On the night of January 6, 2021, after the failed insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, Senator Mitch McConnell said this:

“We will not be kept out of this chamber by thugs, mobs, or threats. We will not bow to lawlessness or intimidation.”

And yet, when given a chance, that’s exactly what he’s doing. By refusing to approve a bipartisan commission to investigate the causes of the insurrection, McConnell is bowing to lawlessness and intimidation.

What happened on January 6 was an attempted overthrow of our democracy. It was also an explicit threat to the public servants whose job is to manage the solemn process of the peaceful transfer of power.

At Democrats Serve, our mission is to elect public service Democrats to political office -- teachers, first responders, nurses, and more. Will you donate now and become one of our founding members to fight back against Mitch McConnell and the rest of Trump’s allies?

And let’s be clear: It’s time to fix the filibuster so that democracy is protected in America.

That’s exactly what we’re going to do — and we need your help to do it, folks.
